Capture is a Chrome extension that sends expenses from purchase confirmation pages straight to Xero. This page explains exactly what data the extension touches, why, and — just as importantly — what it never does.
Capture reads the page you're currently on to detect a purchase, and sends the expense you approve to your own Xero account. Nothing you browse is sent to us. We don't have a server that stores your data, because we don't run one.
Capture's content script runs on every page you visit, not just a fixed list of known stores. This is a deliberate choice: most real business expenses — software subscriptions, a supplier's own checkout, a SaaS tool — aren't on any predictable list of domains. Restricting detection to a handful of known sites would mean missing exactly the purchases that are most annoying to enter by hand, which defeats the point of the extension.
What this permission does not mean: Capture does not record your browsing history, does not transmit page content anywhere, and does not run except to check, locally, whether the current page looks like a purchase confirmation. That check happens entirely inside your own browser.
| Data | Where it comes from | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Page text (to detect a purchase, vendor name, amount) | The page you're viewing | Nowhere. Stays in your browser, used only to pre-fill the popup form. |
| Xero login and access tokens | Xero's own OAuth login | Stored locally in your browser, sent only to Xero's own API with each request. |
| The expense you approve | Typed or confirmed by you in the popup | Sent directly to Xero's API, to your own organisation. Never to us. |
| Anonymous install identifier | Generated once on install | Used only for free-trial logic and, if you upgrade, your subscription status via ExtensionPay. |
Xero: Capture connects to Xero's official API using OAuth. Xero's own privacy policy governs how they handle your accounting data once it reaches them.
ExtensionPay: handles subscription payments if you upgrade to Pro. Capture never sees or stores your card details.
Since we don't operate a server storing your data, there's nothing on our end to delete. Uninstalling the extension removes everything Capture stored locally on your device. You can also revoke Capture's access to your Xero account at any time from within Xero's own settings.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what data Capture accesses, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
